DIY Dollar Store Chalkboard Jars!

Looking for these wine glasses?! Keep reading!)

I've seen a TON of  storage containers on the Internet with painted on chalkboard labels, and I was inspired to make some of my own to hold little odds and end in my craft room (or soon to be craft room...stay tuned!) So off to my local Dollar Tree I went, and I found the PERFECT jars, all for just a dollar each!

I already had some chalkboard paint laying around, but if you don't, you can always purchase some at craft stores or hardware stores where they sell paint. I used the Rust-Oleum Brush-On in Black that you can also find on Amazon. Click on the image below for more info. Please read my full disclosure.

The jars I found had the perfect raised edge square on the front, so I didn't even have to tape them! I just sanded the square a bit to rough it up so the paint would adhere better, then started painting!

As you can see, I had to put on two coats as one just wasn't covering. After letting the second coat dry for 3 days, you condition it for writing by rubbing the entire surface with the flat side of a piece of chalk.

After you wipe it clean, it's ready for writing!

Et Voila! Not too bad for a dollar, eh?

And if you don't have access to a dollar store or don't want to mess around with the actual paint, here are some great options to make your own small storage jars! Amazon offers an inexpensive set of square glass jars with hinged lids at about $2 a piece, as well as chalk paint lables that you can simply  peel, stick and be done! (They even come with a free chalk marker!) Just click on the links or images below for ordering info.

Have you got the itch now to play around with chalk paint?! Here's a few other great ideas using chalk paint I came across. Enjoy!

Paint the top of small mason jars or baby food jars to hold spices or loose teas.

Love this idea! Will have to try this one too......chalk paint on wine glasses instead of charms! I don't know about you, but after a few glasses of wine, I can never seem to remember what charm I had on my glass, but I never forget my name! (MOST of the time anyways....) And they have great wine glasses at the Dollar Store!

*** UPDATE! ***

I just loved this wineglass idea so much that I just had to try it out! These are my new go-to party glasses! Click here to read about my version and how easy they are to create!

Update plain canisters,

or if you just need a chalkboard, think outside the box and paint the inside of an old  tray or a baking sheet
for a more decorative touch.

Until next time!
