Halloween circle garland & a few more decorations
After seeing photos of my Halloween mantle featured allover the bloggasphere last week, (thank-you thank-you to all you wonderful bloggers who featured me!!) I kind of felt like there was something missing. Don’t get me wrong, I love my metallic gold pumpkins, but sometimes things look different through the lens than with the naked eye, know what I mean?! It just needed a little something extra….
…so I added a garland.
When decorating, I usually follow the fashion advise of Coco Chanel “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and remove one accessory.” I think the same rule follows for your home when accessorizing, however in this case just the opposite applies. It’s like my mantle was missing it’s necklace:)
I first saw this idea for a pretty garland made out of paper circles over at Sew Woodsy and instantly knew it would look great on my mantle! Modern and simple. Just my style.
To make it, I simply punched out some circles from my favorite papers I already had on hand using a 1 1/2” circle punch. I then glued the front and back of each circle to a piece of twine. That’s it folks! So easy anyone can do it.
Much better, don’t ya think?!? I love it so much I may even make another one for the holidays. Imagine this draped across your Christmas tree, the reflection from the twinkle lights bouncing off the glittery paper….I’m getting a little ahead of myself here! One Holiday at a time Sarah, one holiday at a time.
I also styled a vignette near the front door using left over decorations from last year.
Recognize the Creepy Door Knocker?! It broke after overheating between the front door and the storm door, so I repurposed it as 3 dimensional art.
I’ll leave you with a few more touches of Halloween around the house. I’m still learning to embrace this holiday and decorate for the sake of my kids because they just love it so much, but I’m not willing to sacrifice style and taste for the sake of a few ghosts and goblins. Hopefully that doesn’t sound too snobbish, but even sticking up bats is a big step for me!
See me in the reflection of the T.V.?! Heelloooo!
How to you decorate for Halloween?!? Do you go all out, just add a few things, or nothing at all?
Have a great weekend folks! I’m heading down to Books by the Banks in Cincinnati this weekend to attend a book signing from John & Sherry at Young House Love and hopefully scoop up a copy or two of the book! So exciting! It’s not officially released until November 5, but you can pre-order your copy here. At only $15.55 a copy, it’s a bargain!
