2012 Holiday Home Tour

I was planning on writing a few different posts this holiday season, but then it got busy. Real busy. And then we got the stomach flu. First my youngest, then me, then my oldest. All while my husband was overseas! Ugh.  But hopefully it’s all over now, just in time for me to sanitize my house and welcome the family all home for Christmas. So it’s a miracle I am even getting this post up! I decided to just give you a home tour with a couple of posts crammed into one. No edited pictures here unfortunately folks, so please excuse the poor lighting and crooked photos! Enjoy! And Happy Holidays!!

The Dining Room

When you first enter our home, the dining room is on the right side. This is probably one of my favorite rooms in the house, even though it only gets used a couple of times a year!

The Entryway

A little Entryway vignette featuring a fun chalkboard printable from A.K.A. Design. I also decided to hang my New Sew Mitten Advent Calendar from the staircase this year in addition to a lighted garland I usually hang from the railing.

The Family Room

I really wanted to find an oversized frame to create some chalkboard art above the fireplace mantle, but I couldn't find one. Truth is, I just didn't have the time to REALLY hunt for one. So I improvised.

Instead of using an actual chalkboard, I found some large black foam core in the basement I had left over from some projects. I found a fun image on pinterest I liked, and  freehand sketched it in pencil onto my foam core. I then used a straight edge and a white paint pen to draw on the foam core so it looks like caulk. To hang it I poked 2 holes in the top and hung it with a ribbon onto an existing hook. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, and even better, didn't cost me a thing!

I love how warm and cozy it feels at night with all the twinkle lights all lit…..even the dog loves to cozy up by the fire!  I love to use natural elements at the Holidays, so you will see a lot of garland (some fresh, some fake!) pinecones&  bark mixed with a bit of glitz and glam!

In the corner of the Family Room is Our Tree. Every year we pick out a live Christmas Tree. I know they are messy and can be a pain, but oh the smell! Nothing beets the smell of a fresh Christmas Tree. I don't do a fancy themed Christmas Tree, because to me Christmas trees are full of fun childhood memories with every tattered, tacky ornament that you pull out of the box year after year.

The only thing I made for the tree this year was a Circle Garland, similar to the one I made for my mantle at Halloween.

Above our  T.V unit I hung the 3D Rudolph head that I made a few weeks back along side some more faux chalkboard art that I freehanded. Did you know that you can by chalk paper in the scrapbook section at the craft store?! That’s what I used here and just drew on the paper with chalk. Brilliant. And i placed some more twinkle lights and my big red balls up there. (I just love to have a chance to say big red balls!)

Even our Basement got a little merry this year as we hosted our first Holiday Party down in the ‘Man Cave’. We bought a small tree and I decorated it with my garland from last year.

I hope you have enjoyed my little Holiday Home tour. You wont be hearing from me until the New Year as I take some time to enjoy the Holidays with our family. I hope you and your family have a safe, happy & healthy holiday!! Cheers!!
