Trendy Tuesday ~ Mad for Malachite

Malachite, an Emerald green stone well known for its vibrancy and trademark swirling pattern, has hit the design world with a gusto. We talked back in January about Emerald green being the color of the year according to Pantone, so this current trend doesn't come as a surprise.

Malachite is actually a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral found deep underground in large masses. It's been used in decorative design pieces for centuries, and was even used as a pigment for paint up until the 19th century. When the mass is cut through the center, you see the gorgeous unique rings ranging in color from light green to deep emerald. Each stone is different and equally as beautiful.

Currently, malachite has risen in popularity not only in jewelry and decorative pieces, but the trademark emerald swirls have inspired fashion & textile designers all over the world. The pattern can be found in a larger scale from furniture to wall coverings to designer dresses. Lets take a look at how this trend is used in Interior Design.
