Creating a work space for a Kindergartner for under $115

When my oldest started Kindergarten last month, I knew I wanted to give him a work space all his own to get him excited for this new adventure and help create a passion for learning. With other siblings in the house, I think it's important to give your kids a place they can be quiet in and concentrate on their work uninterrupted. Whether its to do homework, read a book, or work on building legos, everyone needs a little corner carved out just for them.

Coles room was decorated a little over 4 years ago, just before we welcomed baby#2 into our lives. We had this little tiny computer desk that actually went well with his furniture, so we placed it in his room in the corner where it gathered dust and junk for a few years until he was big enough to use it.

Now the day has come where I really needed to make this space functional. He isn't ready for mom to do an entire room makeover yet, (much to my dismay) so I went about finding an inexpensive way to set up a workstation for him that would coordinate with his room now, yet grow with his new decor when he decides its time for an overhaul.

As a kindergartner, he obviously doesn't have THAT much homework to do, so I wanted to give him a place to hold his creative materials, like pencils and scissors, as well as an area to display his artwork. He also requested a shelf to house his legos in order to keep them away from the hands of his little brother! IKEA was a one stop shop to get all the supplies we needed to carve out this earning corner for our little scholar. AND the best part was, it was quick, easy and inexpensive.
