Our Favourite Home Must Haves
The things we buy for our home range from decorative to functional, and its a bonus when that item can serve both purposes! We put together a list of our favorite must have items for the home such as cleaning gadgets, cooking supplies and decor pieces, most of which not only look great but serve a wider purpose. Dutch Oven
If you don’t own a dutch oven, you need to purchase one. It’s such a versatile cooking tool as it can be used both on the stovetop and in the oven, plus it looks great sitting out on top of your range. We love to use ours to make a pot of tomato soup or a slow cooked Sunday roast!
2. Diffuser
Scented candles are always great to freshen up a room, but diffusers are a much safer option. With just some water and a few drops of essential oils you can have you house smelling fresh like linen, sweet like oranges, or warm like cinnamon. And unlike an open flame, you can leave it unattended day & night. There are so many different shapes, styles and colours of diffusers to choose from. This one is our personal favourite because it is neutral and has an organic shape which suits a variety of decor styles.
3. Throw Blanket
If theres something every room in your house should have (especially in cooler weather!) it would be a throw blanket. They are not only functional to add warmth on those chilly days, but they also can instantly add texture and colour to a room. No matter your personal style for home decor, these solid coloured sweater knit throws from Crate and Barrel are a great option. Perfect for cozy movie nights on the couch or curling up in bed with a good book.
4. Vacuum
Hate vacuuming because the cords or the long hose gets in the way? This Cordless Dyson is the perfect solution. Just hang the charger on the wall, and it is an easy way to grab and go. Not a decorative option but a necessary one, the cordless Dyson makes it so much easier to keep you house clean, especially if you have kids or pets. Its a game changer and will simplify your life. Trust me!
5. Rug
A solid rug can make the world of a difference in a space as it instantly adds warmth to a room and grounds the furniture arrangement. We love this wool rug from Crate & Barrel because it adds texture & warmth, plus it’s neutral colour works with any decor style so you cant go wrong with it. This rug is also a great option for layering under a flat weave vintage or patterned rug.
6. Lamp
Lamps can serve as a main source of light for some rooms (especially older homes that don’t have overhead lighting!) or as accent lighting. We love using table lamps as they are versatile, decorative and functional. These ones form Target are on our radar as a style that coordinates with many different styles, and the price point is great as well!
7. Candle
A scented candle is a great way to bring both scent and ambiance to a room. They are also a great and inexpensive decor object to use for styling your shelves or coffee table (check out this post with our tips!) We love these ones from Sephora that have beautiful embossed glass jars that can be reused once the candle burns out.
8. Drapery
Want the custom look of drapery without the hefty price tag? These linen look drapes from Amazon are our best kept secret to get the custom look at a fraction of the cost. Available in a variety of different colours, lengths and widths, and you can also choose a blackout liner option for added privacy. Drapes are the finishing touch for any room, providing warmth, texture and privacy.
9. Fluted Glasses
These fluted glasses are great for entertaining and everyday use. They’re so simple, yet so elevated and look great displayed on open shelves. Another way you could use them is as a candle holder. More ambient lighting options! Stick a tea light in them and voila, beautiful centre piece.
