Free Valentines Day Photo Card Template
I'm the WORST card sender ever. EVER. Holidays, birthdays, thank-yous, you name it! I never mail them on time and sometimes never even mail them at all. Friends and family, please don't take it personally...its not you, its me. So this year I'm trying...really trying, to make an effort to send out cards to our friends and family and send them out on time.
For Valentines Day, I thought it would be cute, and a bit different, to send out a custom photo card that I created in Photoshop. I printed the photo separately then lightly attached it to a blank card with wash tape, this way our family could easily remove the photo and place it in a frame if they wished. And since I like to share, I'm sharing this template I created along with a tutorial on how to customize it with your own photo!
All you need to do is open the psd file in photoshop and pop your little kiddos picture in there using a clipping mask, which I'm also going to show you how to do! (Don't have photoshop?! No sweat. I'm also going to share a jpg that you can use as a frame at the end of this post.)
Here goes. First things first, download the Free Photoshop Template psd file below to your computer, then open it up in Photoshop. (I created this tutorial using Photoshop Elements, so these interactions may or may not be the same in other versions.)
Once you open it up, you will notice there is a large gray heart shape instead of a photo. This is what we will use to creat a clipping mask. Next we will insert your photo by clicking File > Place.
Once you have chosen your picture, click Place to insert it.
Resisze the photo if necessary, then click on the green arrow to accept it. (Don't worry if it still needs adjusting...you can still do that later!)
Next you are going to head over to the right hand side of your screen where your layers are shown. Select the photo you just inserted and drag it directly above the heart shape layer.
Now go back up to your menu bar and click Layer > Create Clipping Mask.
It might not be centered in the heart, but no worries! Use your move tool to move the photo where you want it and resize if necessary.
Thats it! Make sure to save your masterpiece, then print out to your hearts content!
We've got 2 more weeks, so you still have time left to get those Valentines Day cards sent! I know what I will be doing this weekend:)
P.S. If you don't have photoshop, Here's a Free Printable! Simply download, print it out, then using an exacto knife, cut out the heart shape and mount your picture behind it.
To download, click on the photo to open up a new window, then right click again to save.
