How Long Does It Take to Design & Renovate Your Home?
Are you considering renovating your home? Are you unsure of the timeline and what the process will look like? Renovations can be unpredictable and stressful but we are here to assure everything goes smoothly, which is why we follow a 4 phase process to keep everything on track and organized. The timeline of your project can depend on factors like project scope, contractor availability, team size, and timing. Pre-planning and ordering materials in advance can help streamline the process. In this post, we’ll break down these factors to help you plan and set realistic expectations for your renovation.
Phase 1: planning
The planning phase is the initial step to kick off a renovation, typically taking 8-12 weeks. Together, we will begin with a consultation to define your goals and budget, followed by the creation of a concept design. After a walkthrough with the General Contractor to ensure that the vision is possible, we will finalize detailed plans and source materials. Once the client (you) approves we will meet for a final presentation and final plans will be prepared. The process ends with a final walk-through with the GC to confirm everything before construction begins. Proper planning ensures a smooth transition into the next phase of your renovation.
Phase 2: Procurement
The procurement phase involves ordering all materials and furnishings once designs are approved. We will send detailed installation instructions and construction drawings and work closely alongside the GC to ensure everyone is on the same page. This phase takes 2-4 weeks depending on material availability and project complexity, helping to avoid delays and keep the renovation on schedule.
Phase 3: Construction
The construction phase is where action starts happening, including demolition, structural changes and installations. We will conduct regular site visits to monitor progress and address any upcoming issues, such as delays and material shortages. As the designer, we dissolve any issues and take the stress away from you! This phase typically takes 2-6 months, depending on the project size. Smaller renovations may take around two months, while larger projects could stretch longer.
Phase 4: Installation
The final, most exciting phase, installation. This phase is when the renovation comes to life, typically taking 1-2 days. Consisting of setting up furniture, fixtures and key elements like lighting and cabinetry. We will finalize the renovation with a styling session, adding finishing touches— artwork, decor and accessories—giving the space a personal touch. This transforms your home from a construction zone to a beautifully styled, functional space.
