Carson’s Room Reveal part deux: Budget Breakdown and Sources
So, now that you’ve seen Carson’s new room, want to know where I got everything & how much it cost?! Let’s break it down.
(If you haven't taken the tour yet, do yourself a favor click here!!)
- Wall Paint: Sherwin Williams Emerald Matte; 7015 Repose Gray. Purchased on sale for $38.79
- Ceiling Paint: Behr Premium Plus Ultra Stain Blocking Paint & Primer in One; color matched to Sherwin Williams 6871 Positive Red $31.98
Side Notes:
I seriously LOVE Sherwin Williams' new Emerald paint! I highly recommend it. It’s a wee bit pricier than their other lines, but if you can catch it on sale, it’s definitely worth the few extra dollars. It dries to a beautiful matte, almost flat paint and is washable people. A must for our house with 2 boys and a smelly dog. And out of all the washable paint I’ve used before, this paint has the most matte finish available. Necessary for hiding any imperfections in your walls. For the ceiling, I went with the Behr only because I was going from white to red and this paint was the only one with a matte finish that would cover in only 2 coats. And lets be honest here….I’m too lazy to do any more than 2 coats of paint on a ceiling.- Bed: Malm Bed Frame, full from Ikea $129
- Oversized Chalkboard:
- 1 x4 Pine in 4’ lengths for frame: Lowes; ~ $30
- Stain: Minwax Wood Finished Oil Based Stain; I mixed together English Chestnut 233 & Red Mahogany 225 for a custom color match (left over from previous projects)
- Chalkboard paint: Rustoleum; Black (left over from previous projects)
- Duvet cover & Shams: Room Essentials Striped Duvet Cover from Target $29.99
- Appliqué Bunting pillow: Made by me using fabric scraps I had on hand
- Red Herringbone Throw: HomeGoods $16.99
Side Notes:
You may think this bed an odd choice for a 3 year old, BUT we wanted something that was going to last him a few years and that he could grow into. It’s super low to the ground and the side rails can be adjusted and raised as he grows. We also went with bed slats instead of a box spring to keep it low, and a box spring can always be added when he gets older to increase the height. Plus I love me a modern platform bed:) At only $129, this option was a no brainer.

Alrighty! Let’s add it up! After we had bought the bed and the locker cabinet, I had a kids sale and made $280 to spend on decorating the room. My goal was to try and stay around that amount, so let’s see how I did! (this is the first time I’m actually adding it all up! I know…I’m not a very good budgeter.)
Furniture: $228
Paint: $70.77
Everything Else: $447.02
TOTAL: $745.79
Well, I went a little over ($167 over) , but still not bad for a complete room overhaul! By shopping the clearance sections, doing a lot of the projects yourself, and by taking simple, inexpensive pieces and customizing them, you can easily create a one of a kind room for a fraction of the price it would cost to hire a designer.
