What are Renderings and Why Do You Need Them? We're Glad You Asked...

I'm really going to age myself here....but way back in the day when I was in design school, all renderings were done by hand and 3D computer  renderings were just starting to come on to the scene. They were VERY basic and SO time consuming. Fast forward a *few* years and now they are a staple in most practices.  I began using 3D renderings consistently when I started my business here in Canada about 6 years ago and it has transformed the way we work by saving clients time and has reduced the number of last minute changes to almost zero....which saves both time AND money.

The Basics of WHAT a Rendering Is and Isn't

Renderings create a realistic snapshot of what the clients finished space will look like before any walls are even removed. They contain finishes and fixtures similar to (but not always exact) the materials and furnishings we are proposing to use in the space. We can capture a 3D image of the proposed layout in many different angles and views, even in different lighting scenarios.

The Situations WHEN a Rendering is Helpful

3D renderings become an valuable tool to help clients understand our vision for the space, see how the finishes we are proposing will be applied and get a feel for the layout of the room. We can quickly make revisions in real time to see how a different tile or light fixture would look, try on a different wall paint or flooring finish, and even help decide between two furniture floor plans.

HOW Renderings Impact the Design Process

In our design process, we use 3D renderings to not only convey the design to the clients, but also to the contractor and sub-trades who will be doing the installation and hands on work. They find it so helpful to be able to look at the 3D rendering along side of the 2D elevation to easily reference what materials are to be applied where, greatly reducing mistakes and misunderstandings.

The Reasons WHY Renderings Benefit You

Taking the extra step of creating 3D renderings for each client ends up saving so much time and money in the long run! Communication is clearer, revisions are reduced and most importantly...clients tell me they feel so much more confident in being able to visualize the final space before the demo even begins.

If you have been dreaming about renovating your home but don't know where to start, then choosing a designer who offers 3D renderings as part of their design package might be a wise choice.
